The Interactive Constitution app is a comprehensive resource that offers the complete text of the U.S. Constitution, supplemented with insightful essays by esteemed scholars. These essays delve into various philosophical and legal perspectives, highlighting both areas of consensus and disagreement.
Developed by the National Constitution Center in collaboration with the American Constitution Society and the Federalist Society, this nonpartisan tool has gained recognition and is prominently featured in the College Board's Advanced Placement history and government courses. It is worth noting that the creation of the Interactive Constitution was made possible through a generous grant from the esteemed John Templeton Foundation.
To begin using the Interactive Constitution, simply access the app and click on the "Explore It" button on the introductory screen. Once inside, you will find a range of useful features:
- Navigate through the "Articles" and "Amendments" tabs to explore specific sections of the Constitution that pique your interest.
For the initial 15 Amendments, you will have access to annotated texts for each amendment. Furthermore, leading scholars have contributed "Common Interpretations," outlining areas of agreement, as well as "Matters of Debate," providing individual perspectives on areas of disagreement. These insights are presented alongside the annotated amendment texts.
For Amendments 16 to 27, you can explore the complete annotated texts, supplemented by interpretations from Annenberg Classroom, a highly regarded institution offering resources for civic education.
Additionally, each Article (I-VII) of the U.S. Constitution is available for perusal. These articles are presented in segmented form with annotations contributed by prominent scholars and Annenberg Classroom.
The "About The Constitution" section is an invaluable resource that houses a series of white papers. These papers provide comprehensive background information on the Constitution, including its historical context and guidance on interpretation and application.
